With the open desert terrain of Arrakis stretching out as far as you can see, every scrap counts. If you have to recycle old gear or scavenge the desert floor for scrap metal, deconstruction and salvage are skills worth learning. This guide rips apart the equipment, strategy, and techniques to enable you to get the most use out of every item you find.

1. Breaking Down Objects with the Cutter Ray

  • Tool Required: Cutter Ray
  • Main Purpose: Breaking down environmental constructions, salvageable wreckage, and handmade objects.

Use:

  • Activate the Cutter Ray that is in your inventory.
  • Toggle to Analysis Mode. This will sense weak points on the target object—such as stress cracks or compromised seams in structural terms.
  • Target and follow the beam along the lines uncovered. Successful following will trigger the breakdown process.
  • Then you’ll be rewarded with pieces such as Salvaged Metal and other materials to craft.

Reward:

  • Salvaged Metal
  • Plastcrete
  • Mechanical Parts (object type specific)

(Note: Utilize the Cutter Ray at wrecked locations or hulks of cars littering the desert for lucrative salvage payback.)

2. Recycling Items in Your Base

  • Building: Crafting/Recycling Stations
  • Purpose: Disassemble crafted machinery, obsolete equipment, or parts for raw material.

How to Use:

  • Go to the relevant station on your base (e.g., the Workbench or Recycler).
  • Choose the item from your inventory.
  • Choose the “Recycle” or “Dismantle” option.
  • Confirm deconstructing to get base material return.

(Note: Make use of this process for old weapons, armor mods, or unused modules that you no longer require.)

3. Base Piece Deconstruction

  • Works for: Player-built structures and base pieces.

How It Works:

  • Open your base-building menu.
  • Choose the object or building that you want to dismantle.
  • Verify deconstruction.

Resource Refund:

  • Complete refund of materials for most buildings.
  • 50% refund for Subfiefs (main territorial buildings).

(Note: Plan your base to be modular so you don’t lose much from moving and rebuilding.)

4. Other Salvaging Strategies

Scavenging Desert Wrecks

Rummage through crash sites and abandoned installations for valuable salvage points. Many are guarded or in enemy territories, so be cautious.

Sell Instead of Dismantle

Sell working equipment at exchange terminals if you have a lack of Solari (cash).

Combine Dismantling with Crafting

Scavenge from a worn-out set of gear and use the parts to improve or build new, improved models. Dismantling is the foundation of a cyclical crafting mechanism.

Spend a minute to scan first before it gets dismantled because some special items will be more valuable to sell or upgrade. Travel light by recycling unnecessary gear on trips. Bring some extra Cutter Ray charges if a salvage operation is planned because they dry out quickly when disassembling big wrecks.
